Tyranny of the Majority

I think that Tocqueville had it right when he spoke that we should be aware of the tyranny of the majority. I feel that now, more than any other time in US history we are going to feel this effect. The US Senate is about to nominate two people to Bush’s cabinet that should not hold their office. With such a republican majority there is little the Democratic representation can do but bring attention to the issue. Our elected leaders are about to allow Condoleeza Rice, who oversaw failed intelligence that led us into a unjust war, and Alberto Gonzales, the primary architect for the policy of torture against suspected “terrorists” at Abu Ghraib.

I find it hard to believe that these leaders are going to allow this. How can we allow these two people to gain the posts of Secretary of State and Attorney General? We are appointing a war monger as our head diplomat? And putting a sadist, with no respect for individual rights as the pinnacle of American justice? I feel that this is a serious problem that will only be addressed on one side of the aisle. It is sickening to think that partisan politics are going to get in the way of running an honest Republic.

I only hope that someday we may be able to undo the damage that is about to be done to our fair nation.

  1. I don’t like Gonzales cause he wants to take away guns. he’s just the token mexican put into office for “diversity”.
